Dear members of Peace Lutheran Church,

Since the beginning of 2020 I have been prayerfully looking ahead to the conclusion of my term call and the subsequent call process for long-term ministry at Peace Lutheran Church. My discernment has led me to not continue with the call process but, instead, to retire. As the ending date of my two-year term call was extended from June 1 to December 31 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my retirement will be effective January 1, 2021.

I’m announcing this with mixed emotions! I am so grateful that God has allowed me to journey with Peace Lutheran Church during the past 2 ½ years. Ministry with you has been a time of joy and I truly appreciate you! In my time with you, we have focused on building relationships, zeroing in on our core values and strengths, and exploring our role in God’s mission. Your caring and compassion have sustained Dave and I, and we appreciate the opportunities we have had to worship, learn, pray and share the joys and challenges of life with you and your families.

Peace Lutheran Church will always be in my prayers, and of course as I retire I do so with full confidence that God will continue to work through you! In Mr. Rogers’ words, “I’ll miss you but I know you’ll be fine.” God will continue to guide and strengthen us all—this we know for sure!

I don’t fully know what comes next for me, but I am looking forward to enjoying my other vocations (wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and friend) as well as some of my favorite pastimes: gardening, reading, writing, hiking and kayaking. Dave and I will continue to live in our home in Eyota and we are glad we will continue to be your neighbors. As our synod advises, we will worship elsewhere for at least a year and I will not be available for baptisms, weddings or funerals at Peace Lutheran Church after my retirement. These are routine practices which will allow your next pastor to serve you fully.

The congregation council and call committee are working with the synod staff on next steps. Please watch for an announcement of those steps.

Yours faithfully,

Pastor Beth
